ABOUT ME
my biography
I’ve been telling tales for as long as I can remember. Back in the day, I served as an editor for a magazine published by Harcout Brace, and the rest is history.
From home fashion and design to celebrity chef interviews, the portfolio is diverse. But there’s a common thread. All the work has been targeted to upscale audiences.
Born in New York but living in Bucks County, PA for 30 years, I enjoy my free time cooking, decorating and spending time with my family–including one very quirky poodle.
BEGINNING
my biography
The interest began with winning a writing contest in eighth grade. That was empowering.
But the real possibility came with a promotion from sales writing to editorial at a national beauty trade mag in NYC.
I loved it immediately. Weaving stories from what seemed like thin air were a challenge and a skill I wanted to hone.
So, I took advantage of every opportunity that came my way— writing about everything from beauty products to industry news and trends.
But the real guts came with another opportunity. And that was a national lifestyle publication out of PA, where the editor trusted me with interviewing celebrity chefs and fashion icons and covering assignments about home and living. This is how this lifestyle writer was born, and continues to live.
THE FIRST BOOK
my biography
Yes, there have been books too. My first contribution was to a book entitled, As if by Magic. Stories about the spa lifestyle.
But later, when the deadlines were met and files put away, I began observing the antics of my poodles.
Always loving a challenge, I picked up my pen and captured all the silliness in a truish story about a missing steak bone.
I placed it before a children’s writing guru, and after a few tweaks, a teacher, bookstore owner and yes, children. This would be a children’s book.
Wanting to test these unchartered waters, I set about publishing it—hiring illustrator, editor, and printer. That was in 2007. Now there are eight books and thousands of copies sold. I say you never know where writing is going to take you. Boy, was I ever right.
MY CAREER
my biography
Right now, I have a Style column in a Philly lifestyle magazine, and a regular feature in a Wisconsin realty magazine.
But lots of new opportunities come up—like the decorating trends piece I penned for Costco’s Connection, a travel piece for Big Sky Journal and feature on Celebrity Chef Katie Lee (The Kitchen on Food Network) and her pooch, for a pet magazine out of NYC.
I’ve also sent book eight to the printer as of this writing. It’s another silly story about a city girl who likes to have fun and play baseball. On whom could this be based?
Yes, I love merging reality and imagination to concoct stuff for young readers too. It’s also very rewarding.
The balance of Contributing Writer and Children’s Writer roles has been about perfect. When not writing, I get to talk about it to potential young writers. And when writing, I’m in my Zen place. Where I look up and hours have passed. With pen in hand is where I was meant to be.
